AML Screening

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) screening automatically checks customers against global watchlists, sanctions databases, and PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) lists.

Overview

AML screening runs automatically when:

  • A customer completes a KYC verification
  • You manually trigger a screening
  • Scheduled re-screening occurs (if configured)

Understanding AML Results

Screening Status

  • Pending: Screening in progress
  • Clear: No matches found
  • Match: Potential match found
  • Error: Screening failed

Match Types

Sanctions Match

  • Customer appears on sanctions lists
  • Requires immediate review
  • May require blocking or reporting

PEP Match

  • Customer is a Politically Exposed Person
  • Requires enhanced due diligence
  • Not necessarily a negative indicator

Watchlist Match

  • Customer appears on watchlists
  • Requires manual review
  • May indicate higher risk

Adverse Media Match

  • Negative news or media coverage
  • Requires investigation
  • Context is important

Viewing AML Results

From KYC Verification

  1. Open a completed KYC verification
  2. Navigate to the AML section
  3. View screening results:
    • Match status
    • Matched lists
    • Match details
    • Risk score

AML History Page

  1. Navigate to AML in the sidebar
  2. View all AML screenings:
    • Customer information
    • Screening date
    • Match status
    • Risk level

AML Detail View

Match Information

When a match is found, view:

  • Matched Name: Name that matched
  • Match Type: Type of match (sanctions, PEP, etc.)
  • Source List: Which list the match came from
  • Match Score: Confidence level of the match
  • Details: Additional match information

Risk Assessment

Each match includes:

  • Risk Level: Low, Medium, or High
  • Risk Score: Numerical score (0-100)
  • Risk Factors: Contributing factors

Based on match type:

  • Sanctions Match: Immediate review, consider blocking
  • PEP Match: Enhanced due diligence required
  • Watchlist Match: Manual review recommended
  • Adverse Media: Investigate context

Manual Screening

Re-run Screening

Re-screen a customer:

  1. Open the AML detail view
  2. Click Re-run Screening
  3. Wait for results
  4. Compare with previous results

Screening Specific Lists

Screen against specific lists:

  1. Click Advanced Screening
  2. Select lists to screen against
  3. Run screening
  4. View results

AML Reports

Download Reports

  1. Navigate to AML page
  2. Click Download Report
  3. Select report type:
    • Summary Report: Overview of all screenings
    • Match Report: Only matches
    • Detailed Report: Full screening details
  4. Choose format (PDF, CSV)
  5. Download

Report Contents

Reports include:

  • Screening statistics
  • Match breakdown by type
  • Risk distribution
  • Geographic distribution
  • Time series analysis

AML Configuration

Screening Settings

Configure automatic screening:

  • Auto-screen on completion: Screen when KYC is completed
  • Screening lists: Which lists to check
  • Match threshold: Minimum match score to flag
  • Re-screening schedule: How often to re-screen

Risk Thresholds

Set risk thresholds:

  • Low Risk: Auto-approve if below threshold
  • Medium Risk: Manual review required
  • High Risk: Immediate review required

Handling Matches

Review Process

  1. Review Match Details

    • Check match information
    • Verify customer identity
    • Review match context
  2. Investigate

    • Cross-reference with other data
    • Check for false positives
    • Gather additional information
  3. Make Decision

    • False Positive: Dismiss match
    • True Match: Take appropriate action
    • Uncertain: Escalate for review

Actions on Matches

Dismiss Match

If it’s a false positive:

  1. Click Dismiss Match
  2. Enter dismissal reason
  3. Match is marked as reviewed

Escalate

For complex cases:

  1. Click Escalate
  2. Add escalation notes
  3. Assign to reviewer

Report

For sanctions matches:

  1. Click Report
  2. Follow reporting procedures
  3. Document report

Compliance

Record Keeping

  • All AML screenings are logged
  • Match decisions are recorded
  • Audit trail maintained
  • Reports available for compliance
